Knitting Friendszy

Back in December I tried out some stranded colorwork, a Snowflake patterned hat by  LaVon Murphy .   That post is here   if you would like to see it.  In case you haven't heard, Maine has been hit with successive snowstorms since Thanksgiving. We have so much snow, it's getting hard to find places to put it all! I really wanted to do another of the snowflake hats, since I was so in love with the blue and white one from my previous post. Fortunately for me, my daughter decided that she would like one. We went into my yarn stash and she picked out her colors. The result is below. I love how it came out! I used a basic worsted for each of the colors. The top is a little pointy, and you can either block it to sit flatter, or put a tassle or pom-pom on the top. When I first laid eyes on this pattern, I was struck by the beautiful smocking of the brim. I just HAD to download the pattern, and even better, it's free! I had some leftover baby yarn from a sweater I made a few years ago, so I decided I would try this pattern with that and see how it comes out. About half way, my husband made remarks that the hat was in "baby colors'', and yes, he was correct, but I happen to love the coloring, so I decided to keep going, and I am so pleased with the result. I have always admired knitted items with exquisite designs on them. Since I've never had the patience to do a really intense project, I wanted to start with something relatively simple.  Being that it is winter in Maine, I decided to try my first snowflake hat. I LOVE how it came out!  ( I see many more in my future in an assortment of colors... )  As I was knitting happily along, I was thinking about who this hat would be for. My husband is constantly asking if my knitting projects are for him. This one started out being for someone else, but it came out on the larger side, and so Rob inherited the hat. I guess he doesn't mind since he wears it outside and has claimed it as "his"... As you can see below, the pattern is pretty straightforward, knits, and purls. When the hat is on your head, it flattens out nicely and looks good. I have found that knitting hats is a love of mine as much as making mittens. I myself, don't really wear hats, and never did until I started running in the winter. I do love making them for friends though, and when I spy a pattern I like, it usually brings a particular friend to mind, and then my knitting needles get hopping..... So I will start off with this. When I spied this I instantly thought of my friends son and how cute he would be in it. I of course, had to model it also...
